Vegas baby! Liz and Zach's Las Vegas Wedding

Image
Zach and Liz live in the PNW.  They planned their wedding in Las Vegas, NV so they could have a small intimate and stress-free day and just have a fun time with their closest people.  Liz and Zach love tattoos and going to shows. They have been dating for more than 10 years and finally decided to get married. Liz loves vintage and retro decor. She found Flora pop online and fell in love with the vintage teardrop pop up wedding trailer for her ceremony and reception at the El Dorado Dry Lake Beds in Nevada. Sadly we brought the PNW weather with us and in poured rain in the desert make for very wet lake beds instead.  It didn't rain on our parade though. We all made the best of it and toasted to how life is funny that way. Sometimes you can have all the perfect plans made and yet things happen. We don't always have control of things in life or marriage. Sometimes we just have to go with the flow and enjoy the ride.  After the Ceremony, we retreated back to the MGM Gr

Rockstar Second Shooter: Tips for wedding second shooters

Hey friends,  Living in the beautiful PNW where I'm slammed with weddings May-Oct, "Wedding Season," is in full swing. It has me doing a lot of reflecting on what kind of things I've learned and what of lessons I could teach to other photographers. Over 10 years, I worked as a 2nd shooter and as a lead photographer at tons of weddings. I've worked with amazing photographers who really blew me away with their quality of work and I've worked with budding newbies who have a long ways to go. Either way, I've found that communication is key. If I didn't communicate my expectations upfront, it's my own fault, if things didn't work out the way I'd hoped.  So finally, after all these years, I've written out what I think all 2nd shooters should know...

Americana Engagement session Matt and Shelby Vancouver, WA

Hey there, I'm so excited to photograph Shelby and Matt's wedding this June in Washougal, WA! I had the best time getting to know them during their engagement session on Officers Row in Vancouver, WA.. They are having an Americana Summer wedding; which I totally dig! We incorporated that Idea into their engagement session using sparklers and an American flag with a national historic location. So much fun! Engagement Session Date: July 19, 2017 Wedding Date June 30, 2018 How did you two meet? I used to work with his mom and she introduced us! How did he propose? We were vacationing in Denver visiting another couple who's good friends of ours. We were all driving through the mountains and stopped at a turnout for some pictures. Matt took the opportunity to surprise me and dropped to one knee and proposed! The backdrop was gorgeous - the view was a vast mountain range sprinkled with snow. Unforgettable! Tell me about the details you're most

Ryan and Shelby Vancouver WA Engagement Session

Shelby and Ryan Engagement Session Date: November 05, 2017 Wedding Date July 28, 2018 How did you two meet? Ryan and I were really good friends in middle school. We had big crushes on each other but never dated. My dad had told his mom that I would marry him one day. We went to different high school but still had mutual friends that kept us in contact. In 2012 Ryan had told our mutual friends that he was going to marry me one day. Our friends laughed at him saying "Ya right". In August 2014 Ryan was in a wedding at Camas Meadows Golf Course where I worked in the summers. I was not scheduled to work the wedding. I got a call at 4:00 to be a server. I left my plans and went to work. It so happened that the table I was assigned to was Ryan's family. Ryan had a few drinks during the wedding. He had continuously asked to take me on a date. I had told him I was dating someone. But his persistence continued. The next morning Ryan text me saying "I'm
